WORKING AS A MAKEUP ARTIST AT LONDON FASHION WEEK
FASHION NEVER SLEEPS
Fancy a 5.50am flight? Catching a 2:00am bus to the airport? Or having no sleep for 24 hours?
Welcome to Fashion Week!
Fashion week is a national institution in many countries and it's big business. With the use of animal hides and fur in fashion, it can draw protests and controversy.
When you sit and watch a runway show, you never get a real sense of the bustling madness backstage. One thing everyone there knows, with fashion, everything is last minute. In this world, time ticks fast. Everything here is meticulously organised months in advance to make your journey seamless!

One thing that a makeup artist does before having that 3am airport coffee to Fashion Week, is get a briefing of what they are expecting you to do. This usually involved a face chart that a makeup designer has created to make your job easier. The reason? No one will have time to talk you through it when you arrive. No one will hold your hand, or even show you were the toilets are. It's all hands on deck the moment your flight lands!

Like in film, it wouldn't be unusual for your day to be 16 hours. On your feet from 8:00am to 10:00pm, this arena is not for the faint hearted. You do get all your breaks, and the catered food is also divine!

After hours, you better keep up! Fine wines, prosecco and champagne are the refreshments after a job well done. When you do make it back to your rented apartment, you just close your eyes and suddenly the car is outside ready to bring you back to do it all over again.
All for the love of beauty! How lucky are we?
